In the year 2025, overpopulation has become a crushing reality. In answer to this, scientists discovered a way to create artificial worlds in other dimensions, connecting them with portals. Every year the government would take two fifths of the new eighteen year olds and take them to the central hub. There they question them to find out their ideal world, subsequently sending them off to live their lives in the place which is determined to be perfect for them. Though there is one world which is not designed for the common people, but rather the violent criminals. It is world run by ruthless gangs and a world which contains no laws, other than do whatever you have to do to survive. Eighteen year old, Isaac, goes to the hub dreaming of a beautiful countryside world. But when he finds himself being sent to World 42 his life is turned upside down. He discovers friends, and uncovers conspiracies which will change the very nature of the earth.

This book is unforgettable, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I could not put it down. It was well written and I loved the story line and its thrilling atmosphere. I truly recommend this book.I am the type of person who finds it hard to sit down and read but with this book i did not have this problem. I have read this book so many times and i have had people ask me to put the book down as I have had it with me everywhere.
I gave this book a 5 star rating because it deserved it, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a good thrilling book.
There are only a few books that i can say i like as i get distracted and bored but this book is one of my favorites and I love it!! I have to say when i found out that the author was 17 years old I was surprised because it seems shocking to think at such a young age you can write such a brilliant book. i wish i had half the talent that this young man has and half the imagination and perseverance.
Well done and I hope to read more of your wonderful books Toby Causon.

I was really looking forward to reading this. I liked the premise and I like a number of the new Coming of Age novels, such as Hunger Games and several others. While the premise of this novel is good, the writing is unfortunately bad. I struggled to get through it and made it to page 14, after wanting to quit much sooner than that. I realize this is a very small sample of the novel, but if I, as an eager reader, could not make it beyond this, pity the effects on the first reader of the publisher to whom the poor author submits this in the office of a traditional publisher. That first reader is employed to stop reading at the first error or problem. I have been a member of a number of writing groups such as Mystery Writers of America and half a dozen others and learned the hard way that in the current publishing climate, manuscripts need to be letter perfect. This is not. This author, apparently young, has bravely put this book out for readers. I applaud this courage. However, this needs to be revised and revised dramatically. I wish I could say otherwise.As a person who has had more than several manuscripts rejected, I know the feeling. It totally stinks. It is not only necessary to write well, it is necessary to write what the market wants. This author has the right idea and only needs to work on the execution.
Good book. Very good book. Well-written. Lots of guns. Some explosions. Kinda cool. No pictures but good for anyone with adequate reading skills. Can't wait for the film next year...
